3 Welcome to the 2019 Ladbrokes Cox Plate Carnival, one in which brings with it the promise of LEGENDARY new beginnings. Our two-day Ladbrokes Cox Plate Carnival on October 25-26 will provide a new and exciting chapter to our two premier races where we will witness the running of the 99th W.S. Cox Plate and 52nd running of the Manikato Stakes. What we bore witness to in the 2018 Ladbrokes Cox Plate is something that we will never forget. Winx, a four-time W.S. Cox Plate champion, now stands alone as the greatest we have seen of all time. The chance to celebrate her and other champions of the past and to crown two new legends of the turf is now upon us. On the other hand, how does one possibly follow that? To quote the late Les Carlyon, ‘Moonee Valley Racing Club, rather like that good colt Shakespeare in his Classic year, insists on staging masterpiece after masterpiece’. One only needs to look at the honour roll to realise what Les was talking about - Sunline followed Might & Power, Saintly followed Octagonal, Kingston Town followed Dulcify – the beauty of the Weight-For- Age Championship is that its legendary status is assured year after year after year. Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes Night on October 25 is fast becoming the most vibrant and thrilling night of racing in Melbourne’s Spring Racing Carnival.
