Therefore, horses which fall into clause 8(b) ii) are not eligible to compete on these days, unless trained at the host track. The number of acceptances for barrier trials conducted on grass tracks are restricted to 120 per day (Official 2YO trials excluded); The Metropolitan trial limit is in place after consultation with Stewards to ensure that ATC tracks are maintained in as good condition as possible for on course trainers to use year round. The only time this limit may be exceeded is in consultation with the Stewards and ATC Track Managers. 2. Should the number of horses nominated exceed 120, then horses will be balloted in the following order: (a) Horses not trained on the track which have raced within the past 22 days (barred horses excluded) a. Exemptions to this clause may be provided at the absolute discretion of ATC based on Black Type and Metropolitan performance (b) ANY horse that has had two (2) or more Barrier Trials in their current preparation* a. In the event that the required ballot does not require ALL horses under this clause, preference will be given to horses trained on the track (c)Horses not trained on the track which have trialled previously in their current preparation* beginning with the horse which has had the most number of trials then by age (2YO's & barred horses excluded) (d)Any other horse not trained on the track (barred horses excluded) (e) Horses which have raced within the past 22 days irrespective of training location (barred horses excluded) (f) Horses which have trialled previously in their current preparation* begin- ning with the horse which has had the most number of trials then by age irrespective of training location (2YO's & barred horses excluded) * A horse is classified to be within a 'preparation' if it has raced or trialled subse- quent to a 90 or more day spell. Barred Horses = Horses directed by Stewards to trial to their satisfaction, or first starters trialling for qualification. Thur . . . . . . . . . . . 11 am BARRIER TRIAL TYPES PROGRAMMED FOR ALL PROVINCIAL TRIALS 2YO Colts & Geldings Trial 2YO Fillies Trial 3YO Colts & Geldings Maiden Trial 3YO Fillies Maiden Trial 4YO & UP Maiden Trial Open Trial PROVINCIAL BARRIER TRIALS–BALLOTING CONDITIONS (effective 1/3/17) Provincial Clubs conducting barrier trials on their Grass Tracks reserve the right to limit the number of horses trialling to 100. Horses with Stewards Bars and 2yos are exempt from these conditions. Should a ballot be required the following order will be applied until a level acceptable to the club conducting the trials is reached: 1. Horses trained by Metropolitan based trainers. Clubs reserve the right to exclude Group and Listed performed horses. 2. Horses trained by Country based trainers. Clubs reserve the right to exclude Group and Listed performed horses. 3. If the number of Provincial trained horses exceeds 100 then the following conditions apply: a. Horses that have raced in the past 21 days b. If still exceeds 100 then horses that have trialled in the past 21 days c. If still exceeds 100 then horses that have raced commencing with Maiden class by lot d. If still exceeds 100 then horses that are unraced by lot 4. Any other condition that the Club in its absolute discretion might apply. TRIAL CONDITIONS 1. All horses must be registered before being nominated. The date of registration shall be determined by the date shown on the Registration Certificate. 2. Competing horses must be trained by licensed trainers or owner/trainers. 3. Horses may run in, normal working shoes, tips, plates or horses may run barefooted, subject to conditions imposed by Stewards 4. Bandages must be stitched to the full length on the outside of the leg and elastoplast at the outside joint with thread of a contrasting colour. 5. Stewards may prevent from starting any horse which in their opinion is lame, or shows any defect calculated to cause injury or which may be suffering from skin disease. 6. Only licensed jockeys, apprentices or probationary apprentices shall be permitted to ride in trials (or as otherwise approved by the Stewards). Further provided that NO apprentice or probationary apprentice shall be permitted to ride in any 2YO trial, until he or she has ridden in at least 10 races (or as otherwise approved by the Stewards). Provided that an approved rider, as endorsed by the Stewards for that purpose, may also ride in trials conducted in the provincial area. 7. All riders in trials shall wear approved protective vests, skull caps and distinguishing colours. 8(a) Trials for Two-Year-Olds – Metropolitan 2YO barrier trials are resticted to: i) untrialled 2YO’s from any course; ii) trialled 2YO’s which are trained in the metropolitan area; iii) other 2YO’s as approved by the respective Race Club. Provincial 2YO barrier trials are open to horses trained at any course. 8(b) Trials for older horses – Metropolitan 3YO or over barrier trials are restricted to: i) untrialled 3YO or over horses from any course; ii) other 3YO or over horses as approved by the respective Race Club. Provincial 3YO or over barrier trials are open to horses trained at any course. 8(c) Trials for Blinkers. 1. An unraced horse, when initially passed to race wearing blinkers in a trial, must retain that gear unless retrialled without blinkers and notification of removal is received by Stewards prior to the declaration of acceptance. 2. A horse may race with blinkers and a nose roll or with side winkers and a nose roll providing such horse trials to the satisfaction of Stewards in an official trial, wearing such gear. 8(d) Trials for Horses Under Stewards Disability. Horses under disability may trial at any course. 9. The nomination fee for all trials shall be (incl GST) per horse, per trial: Metropolitan $252.50 (Grass) $200 (POLYTRACK) (effective 1/08/20) Provincial $230 (effective 1/10/14) 10. The riding fee for all trials shall be $71.67 (excl GST) per horse, per trial. (effective 1/7/2016) 11. No horse may be nominated for a barrier trial unless a stable return has been lodged with Trainers and Racing Services at least 48 hours prior to the closing time of entries. 12. Nominators agree to be bound by the Rules Of Racing. 13. All trials for Two-year-olds conducted in the Metropolitan Area shall be deemed to be official trials for the purpose of qualifying conditions for the Breeders’ Plate and Gimcrack Stakes. 14. No horse, unless otherwise approved by the Stewards, shall be permitted to run in a trial unless it has been nominated. 15. Replacement of horses will not be permitted.
